Surfers’ Paradise, Porthtowan in Cornwall, was the next stop for the Red Stripe Music Award bus. Blue Bar, situated just a stone’s throw away from the beautifully scenic cove of Porthtowan was the stop off for the most varied gig in Red Stripe’s history from jazz fusion, energetic punk rock to unexpected hip hop.
The Super Mario influenced ‘HedLuv’ kicked off the night with a fully unpredicted Beastie Boys meet Jurassic 5 sound with real tuneful electro beats. It was totally refreshing and you could see that there was serious talent there, which got so many nodding their heads with acknowledgement.
The ‘Ambassadors of Sorrow’ proved that Porthtowan had an incredibly varied sound with some really nice jazz tunes and a sharp well dressed look, thanks to Angeline’s dress and that amazing double bass.
Then it was time to turn up the amps with IPony. Getting even their manager to rock it out on the pool table and the whole crowd going nuts – this band really sold their story. The noise was loud and the energy was mental. I even got a T shirt!
Finally the Madrips took to the stage. Sporting their own personalised bass drum, they really looked the part and created as much noise from the amps as they could.
I want to go back to Blue Bar as soon as possible.... Loved it!
